Native breed English Longhorn cattle are born & reared on our farm.

The "in" phrase is "regenerative farming" where we do our best for nature & biodiversity.. each farm is different in their approach to this.
The ZERO use of chemicals and artificial fertilisers in OUR Beef production process helps the health of the soil & plant life and thus provides the forage diet for these ruminants when they graze the diverse pastures, wetlands, heathland & woodland across the many reserves in the locality.
This system ultimately rewards us with a healthy product to nourish us.
Our pastures are permanent,(some are well over 100 yrs old) and diverse in species,we feed the pastures and the soil they grow on our straw based manure from our winter cattle pens usually in the Autumn.
We minimise disturbance of the soil on our grazing areas so it holds the carbon in place while the soil depth and fertility grows, the carbon footprint of our beef operation is therefore lower.
About Us
The Withybed herd of English Longhorns,conservation grazers,are based at Coopers Hill, Alvechurch and are moved periodically to multiple reserves across Worcestershire for Wildlife trusts, National Trust and private bodies throughout the "grass" growing period.
These project sites we are employed on are mainly SSSI’s (Sites of special scientific interest), SINC’s (sites of importance for nature conservation) LNR’s, NNR’s (local & national nature reserves).
The cattle are on site to assist in the management by grazing,nibbling or browsing of scrub,hedges and trees and therefore this provides the cattle with essential natural trace elements & vitamins.
Conservation grazing encourages biodiversity by the introduction of the grazing beef animal to the site.

Coopers Farm shop selling "Withybed Traditional Beef" is now accredited as a butchery oulet for 100% pasture for life beef.These cattle are not fed grain or Soya at all during their lives and grow steadily on a diet of grass, herbs, Heather, Wood pasture, Fen land, and receive only Hay or Haylage during the winter months when they need additional feed.The grazing land on which they grow receives no artificial fertilizers or chemicals.
The cattle are anti-biotic free (only for essential animal welfare we will administer antibiotics under veterinary guidance) and we avoid using anthelmintics which in turn keeps our dung beetles thriving.
As they say "You are what you eat"! The same applies to these animals.
